WOYWW 18th May

Good Morning, everyone.
This is my workdesk this morning! - A mess really but heh, what's new. I did have a tidy up and a rearrangement but since then I have just made it a mess again.
I missed last weeks WOYWW, and have to say that although I was busy with friends staying foe a few days, I think I was having withdrawal symptoms as I was actually thinking about all those desks out there and what was on them! Do I need to get a life???
Anyway, you can see some new punchws on my desk which I have avoided buying for ages but have decided they will save me so much time!! There are also some lovely glass jars that I picked up from a car boot sale (4 for £1.50) - they'll look lovely with coloured buttons in.
Talking of car boots, take a look at my floor space (eughhhh). My daughter has convinced me to DO a Car Boot this weekend, and we have sorted stuff out and yes, it has been plonkd in my Craft room for sorting! TYPICAL! My daughter is 13 and desperate to earn some money (for what I don't know). She really wants to get a little job, which I admire her for, but because of her age she just can't! (H&S, insurance etc) I think it's ridiculous, I had a job at 13, and feel sorry for her that she can't. She can't do a paper round either as we are too far away from any shops etc. What about you did you have a job at 13 and do you think it's crazy that our kid's can't???
Rant Over!!!! If you are wondering what WOYWW is all about pop over to Julia's blog at http://stamping-ground.blogspot.com/ and have a mooch around.
I will be visiting desks and looking forward to the WOYWW PIF in a couple of weeks!
Have a great day X

I think the car boot is a great idea. Kids love to earn their own money and should be encouraged.

Your desk is looking busy! :) And it looks like you have a little enterpreneur in your hands. :) Good for her! Happy WOYWW!

Yup ... I had a Saturday job at 13 ... on the make up counter at Woolworths ... I thought I was sooooo cool and it is a great shame that your daughter misses out! Just make sure she only takes the items from the middle of the floor to the Car Boot ;0)

I love your pen storage thingamajig - you've obviously got an eye for unusual storage units. The lovely wooden container/urn on your table - love that shape. No, I didn't have a job at 13, imprisoned at boarding school, weren't allowed! My son had a paper round then, different rules for girls - DD usually had band practice and was being chauffered here there and everywhere! Tks for stopping by. Happy WOYWW #4

thanks for sharing your desk which looks good! Howabout your DD doing ironing for neighbours and friends... they drop it off and collect... you just pay for the electricity. My DD used to do that as most people don't like ironing.

It is such a shame that we have to safeguard children so much these days - nature of the beast that lurks I guess.
Thanks for sharing your busy desk (and floor!)

good luck withthe boot fair. I agree, it is sad kids these days can't do the things we did - though I didn't have a job till later - sad world were we are ruled by the fear of something happening!

Best of luck with the sale. I worked in my local library at that age and loved it. Eventually I became a "real" librarian so it set me on my career path, Shame she can't get even a part time job - there's always babysitting :)

Hope your car boot sale goes well. My daughter started making and selling cards at 13. Great idea - I bought all the materials and she reaped the profits!

MY DD has a girlfriend who is buying and selling on Ebay, averages 700 a month and has been doing it since she was 13...even then she was getting 200 or so...it's all about the doing!! I understand about your floor space, as long as you don't let them dump the unsold stuff back in there, it'll be fine. That happens here, I get to deal with it..and I hate that! Breathe!!

I've done yard sales and garage sales, but never car boot sales...sounds like fun! I love your craft room; how nice to have so much space to spread out and work. Happy WOYWW!

Wonder what the heart is going to be used for? Love all your unusual glass storage jars. Worked in Woolies at the age of 15yrs. Wasn't allowed to do a paper round. Hugs Mrs A.

I assume a car boot is probably our version of a garage sale? :) hehe
Now that my 2nd daughter has moved out we use that room for storage. :)
Love your room, it looks big. I am a new follower from Momo's. If you would like to follow me (or just check my blog out) :) it is http://myneed2craft.blogspot.com

I had a job at 11 but that was because it was a family business. My sister started at 7 years old! We all had fun working together! I keep telling my son who is 16 to think of a business. Kids always have something they want to spend on! Patsy from

They say one person's trash is another person's treasure so a car boot sale might be a good little earner for your daughter. We've become so tied up with litigation and fear, haven't we? Pity your daughter can't have a job these days. It's a bit mad, isn't it?
All the best,
Ros. (140)

Desk isn't too bad, won't take long to tidy it up, what's that really old book for? Think I was 15 when I got my first job, in a bakery/cafe, I used to do the tables in the cafe part. But they got taken over by a bigger firm and the Saturday girls had to be 16 and I was two months off that so had to leave! That was in the early 80's, so the whole H&S thing has been going on for a while! Still, it's good that she's willing to do something at least!

Your desk and floor look very interesting this week, good luck with the boot sale. I did a couple last year but didn’t like getting up at the crack of dawn to set up but I suppose needs must.
I had a couple of Saturday job before I let school. The first was in Woolworths, selling make up and toiletries and then after a year I got a job in Barton’s the bakers because they paid more. I was nice having my own money and being able to spend it on whatever I wanted to.
Sadly neither of those places exist now.

Happy WOYWW!

I was incarcerated at boarding school but would have loved to have a little job to supplement the measly pocket money we got :( Hope the boot sale goes well - and you could always get her into card making for her friends :)) Di x

The car boot sale is a great idea for your daughter if she really does the work for it! My daughter, who is also 13, usually looks after the neighbors' mail, gardens etc. when they're on vacation and thus earns some money. Otherwise she volunteers at a child care center once a week and perhaps some weeks over the summer.
I like the bag in the back with the peguins on!

Got my first job on the Woolworth's Pick 'n' Mix aged 13. Was very good and didn't help myself to the sweets !

What a great space you have. I wondered if the pile of things on your floor where going to be turned into some amazing craftiness!! A Car Boot sounds a great idea, something we've been meaning to do for ages, our loft is so full it's a wonder the roof doesn't come down!!
I was an ice cream girl serving Mr Whippy out of one of those machines but I can't remember at what age, I was still at school though.
